The Project

The cuneiform artifacts of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad are a central part of the cultural heritage of Mesopotamia, which is of great importance to all of humanity. As an interdisciplinary academic project, the aim of CAIC is to document, edit, and analyze approximately 17,000 cuneiform tablets both from historical and linguistic perspectives. With the help of the latest digital approaches it will also make them available online to the general public and experts from various disciplines.

Call for a CAIC Iraqi Scholarship

Iraqi cuneiform scholars are invited to apply for a scholarship in Munich, Germany, to prepare a publication of cuneiform texts. This program, offered by the Munich CAIC project at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, supports scholars with travel costs and a stipend for 45 to 90 days.

Applications are encouraged from postdocs and doctoral students. Deadlines: January 31st and July 31st.
